What it can do.
Spacemail for Claude is an MCP connector. It plugs your Spacemail inboxes into Claude, so you can ask about your email in plain English.
-
Check new mail
See what’s come in across all your mailboxes at once, with a short preview of each message.
-
Search
Find mail by sender, subject, words in the message or date.
-
Read emails
Open any message in full, with the names of its attachments.
-
Draft replies
Threaded replies and new emails, saved to your Drafts folder so you can check them first.
-
Keep track
Mark messages read or unread, and flag the ones that need you.
-
Archive, move or bin
File messages away, move them between folders or send them to Trash.
Safe and private by default.
It’s your email, so the connector is careful with it.
-
01
Drafts, not sends
Claude saves drafts for you to check and send yourself. Sending straight away is a setting you’d have to switch on.
-
02
Nothing deleted for good
Delete moves a message to Trash, just as it does in webmail, so it can always be got back.
-
03
Trick emails can’t give orders
Email content is marked as untrusted when it reaches Claude, so a message can’t tell Claude what to do.
-
04
Stays on your computer
Your passwords stay on your computer and your email goes straight to Spacemail. Nothing passes through us and nothing is collected.
Install it.
Pick whichever matches how you use Claude. Most people want the first one.
-
Claude Desktop
EasiestDownload spacemail.mcpb- Download spacemail.mcpb.
- Double-click it. Claude Desktop opens an install screen.
- Enter your Spacemail address and mailbox password. You can add up to three mailboxes.
- Click Install, then ask Claude: “Test my Spacemail connection.”
-
Claude Code, with the setup wizard
Recommended on MacRun this in Terminal. It asks for each mailbox, checks the login works, offers to add another, and on a Mac saves the passwords in your Keychain.
Run it again any time to add, rename or remove a mailbox, change a password, or turn sending on or off.
npx -y spacemail-mcp checktests the mailboxes you’ve saved.npx -y spacemail-mcp setup -
Claude Code, set up by hand
Put in your own email address and mailbox password, then paste it into Terminal.
claude mcp add spacemail -s user \ -e SPACEMAIL_EMAIL=hello@yourbusiness.com \ -e SPACEMAIL_PASSWORD='your-mailbox-password' \ -- npx -y spacemail-mcp@latest -
Cursor, Windsurf and other MCP apps
Add this to your app’s MCP settings, with your own email address and mailbox password. The README explains how to connect several mailboxes.
Read the README{ "mcpServers": { "spacemail": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "spacemail-mcp@latest"], "env": { "SPACEMAIL_EMAIL": "hello@yourbusiness.com", "SPACEMAIL_PASSWORD": "your-mailbox-password" } } } }
Options B, C and D need Node.js 20.17 or later. Claude Desktop brings its own, so option A needs nothing else.
Which password?
Use your mailbox password, the one you use to log in to Spacemail webmail. It isn’t your Spaceship account password.
If you’ve forgotten it, you can reset it in Spacemail Manager in your Spaceship dashboard. IMAP and SMTP access, which the connector uses, are switched on by default, so there’s nothing else to turn on.
Things to ask.

Questions people ask.
Is it free?
Yes. It’s free and open source under the MIT licence, so you can use it, read every line of the code and change it if you like.
Is it official?
No. It’s an independent project by Norwich Website Design. It isn’t made by, affiliated with or endorsed by Spaceship or Spacemail.
Can Claude send emails without asking?
No. Claude saves drafts for you to check and send yourself. Sending directly is a setting that stays off unless you switch it on.
Does it work in the Claude phone app?
Not yet. It works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code and other desktop apps that support MCP.
Where is my data stored?
On your computer, and nowhere else. Your passwords stay on your machine and your email goes directly between your computer and Spacemail. Nothing passes through Norwich Website Design and nothing is collected.
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI assistants like Claude to other software. This connector is what lets Claude talk to Spacemail.
Where do I get help?
The full documentation is on GitHub. If something isn’t working, open an issue there and I’ll take a look.
Need an AI integration like this for your business’s tools?
I build connectors like this one, plugging Claude and other AI assistants into the software your business already runs on. Tell me what you’d like it to do.
